Summer Art Show Symposium 2016

Watch the Summer Art Show Symposium with artists from the Floating on Waves group.

The Promega Summer Art Showcase presents ‘Floating on Waves,’ featuring a cross-cultural art exchange between Japanese and Wisconsin artists.

Inspired by collaborative exhibitions, personal homestays and shared travels, Wisconsin and Japanese artist friends will meet in Madison to share their most current contemporary works, including altered books, drawings, paintings, printmaking, mixed media and fiber.

Relationships forged between the Japanese and Wisconsin artists dates back to 2000 when Wisconsin Visual Artists of the South Central Chapter organized a large exchange exhibition at the Memorial Union Galleries. Friendships blossomed and grew into lifelong professional relationships sustained over a decade through exhibitions in museums and galleries spanning from Wisconsin to Tokyo.

Most recently, in the summer of 2013, Japanese and Wisconsin artists rejoined in Tokyo at the Bumpodo Gallery with a widely successful opening including a live painting and experimental jazz performance. On June 14, ‘Floating on Waves,’ brings together this core group of professional artists from across the seas. As the group continues to grow its cross-continental relationship, ‘Floating on Waves’ will also feature the works of several younger Japanese artists.

Exhibiting artists include: Kanako Akiyama, Bonnie de Arteaga, Pat Filzen, Minoru Ishihara, Nanami Ishihara, Kimiko Kamijo, Kenji Kato, Shizue Kido, Sohee Kim, Yuji Kobayashi, Lee Mothes, Kohji Ohsono, Katherine Steichen Rosing, Tori Tasch, Kazuyuki Terada and Rita Yanny.

The Summer Art Showcase opened Tuesday, June 14, 2016, and continues through September 23, 2016. The exhibit is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
