The Promega Spring Art Showcase, “Eternal Cycles,” presents a profound exploration of art’s ability to capture the timeless and the transient. Featuring Sharon Kilfoy’s evocative new series, Disintegrations, alongside the historically significant Mark Jacobs Collection, “Eternal Cycles” invites viewers to reflect on cycles of transformation, impermanence and renewal.
The Mark Jacobs Collection is one of the most comprehensive private collections of early photographic processes. Selections on display include Fred Payne Clatworthy’s autochromes of the American Southwest, autochromes by pioneering photographers such as the Lumiere Brothers, and rare examples of Kromograms and Dufaycolor. Sharon Kilfoy, a Madison-based artist, combines fabric collages crafted from clothing and personal items with layers of paint, graffiti and intentional destruction. These dynamic works explore the Buddhist concept of disintegration, evoking a world on the cusp of transformation.
The Promega Fall Art Showcase, Family Ties, offers a deeply personal exploration of identity, legacy and the powerful bonds that define our sense of belonging. The exhibit by British-born, Madison-based artist Faisal Abdu’Allah opens Tuesday, September 9.
Faisal Abdu’Allah is the Chazen Family Distinguished Chair in Art at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His work has been exhibited internationally and continues to push boundaries across media, identity and discourse. At the heart of Family Ties is Abdu’Allah’s belief that family, whether rooted in bloodlines, chosen kinship or shared purpose, serves as both anchor and mirror. Through a series of multi-layered screen-printed portraits, constructed alter egos and large photo tapestries, the artist explores the passage of time, unpacked masculinity, mythology and racial perception.
