Yvette M. Pino

U.S. Army veteran, Yvette M. Pino, was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division, where she earned the rank of Sergeant. Sergeant Pino was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2003-2004. While serving in Iraq, Pino found a sense of solitude in creating works of art. Her commanding officers recognized her skill and appreciated her artwork, including General David Petraeus. This recognition earned her the unofficial title of “Division Artist.” The title later followed her to her 2nd deployment to Iraq in 2005-2006, where she created murals, which boosted the morale of her fellow troops.

Following her active duty service, Yvette served with the 1175th MP Battalion, Missouri National Guard where she was activated to assist with relief efforts during the 2008 Mississippi River floods.  After receiving her BFA from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, Pino founded the “Veteran Print Project.” Through combining the management skills she learned as a non-commissioned officer with her artistic experience, she has found her passion in working with veterans issues. The Veteran Print Project seeks to open an ongoing dialogue between two divergent groups: veterans and artists, to express the historical experiences of veterans through the traditional methods of fine art print.
