1996 Spring Art Show, Francis Nnaggenda

The first Promega Art Showcase included fifty paintings from Ugandan artist, Francis Nnaggenda.  In 1995, Daniel Swadener met with Nnaggenda in East Africa.  Swadener located a private garage in Nairobi, Kenya, where Nnaggenda had been storing his art. The entire collection was purchased from Nnaggenda and brought to the U.S. and the first art showcase was planned.  Nnaggenda arrived in Madison in 1995 and selected a walnut tree which he then carved into the ‘Mother and Child’ sculpture that is still displayed in the BTC atrium today.
