{"id":4081,"date":"2017-04-10T15:34:41","date_gmt":"2017-04-10T15:34:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.promega-artshow.com\/?page_id=4081"},"modified":"2017-04-12T13:28:35","modified_gmt":"2017-04-12T13:28:35","slug":"rina-yoon","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.promega-artshow.com\/?page_id=4081","title":{"rendered":"Rina Yoon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rinayoon.com\" target=\"_blank\">Rina Yoon<\/a><\/strong> received B.F.A in studio art from the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX, and M.F.A in printmaking from the Washington University in St. Louis, MO.\u00a0\u00a0 Yoon is Professor of Art at the Milwaukee Institute of Art &amp; Design where she has been teaching printmaking since 1999.\u00a0 Over the last 20 years, Yoon has focused on non-traditional printmaking methods in her work, and has produced a series of large-scale prints, print installations, drawings, and mixed media works.\u00a0 Yoon\u2019s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally including 12 solo exhibitions, and invitational\/group exhibitions in the US, Korea, China, Poland, Germany, India, and Italy.\u00a0 Most recently, she participated in the China\/America International Print Exhibition in China, New Hanji: American Perspective in South Korea. \u00a0More info: \u00a0<strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rinayoon.com\">www.rinayoon.com<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Between <em>In<\/em> and <em>Yeon<\/em> \u2013 Artist\u2019s Statement<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u201cRegard your body as a vessel, simple boat getting here and there.\u00a0 Make of it wish-fulfilling body to bring about benefit of being.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>by <\/em>Shantideva from A Guide to the Bodhisattva\u2019s Way of Life<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIt is clear that life is maintained by a huge number of constantly compensating alterations by every tissue and organ, all with the purpose of perpetuating the stability of the milieu interior which in turn perpetuates the stability of the cells.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>by Sherwin Nuland\u00a0 from Wisdom of the Body<\/p>\n<p>In \u201cBetween <em>In <\/em>and <em>Yeon\u201d, <\/em>the body returns to the earth and emerges from it.\u00a0 The <em>earth <\/em>and <em>body<\/em> are separate and one at the same time.\u00a0\u00a0 I imagine that <em>my body<\/em>, like a seed, has been planted in the soil of life.\u00a0 The body waits quietly underneath the soil till it emerges from the surface.\u00a0 It will grow and endure, celebrate and struggle, until it returns back to the earth.<\/p>\n<p>In my most recent body of work, \u201cBetween <em>In <\/em>and <em>Yeon\u201d <\/em>I have been examining the concept of \u201c<em>Inyeon<\/em> (\u56e0\u7de3)<em>\u201d, <\/em>which is one of the most fundamental concepts in Buddhism.\u00a0 <em>In <\/em>means \u201ccause\u201d and <em>Yeon<\/em> means \u201ceffect\u201d.\u00a0 It refers to the view that everything in life is interdependent and that no phenomenon exists (or comes about) without depending on other phenomena or conditions around it.<\/p>\n<p>A seed is a good example to demonstrate this relationship.\u00a0 A fate of a seed, which has its pre-determined property (<em>In<\/em><em>), <\/em>is dependent on the external environment &#8211; soil condition, climate (<em>Yeon<\/em><em>)<\/em>. Much like a seed, our human life is interdependent: out DNA, familial situation, geographical environment, life situations influence and shape our sense of being.\u00a0 We undergo the continuous change throughout our lifetimes, both physically and emotionally;
